Our Methods

The McDonnell Lab focusses on an interdisciplinary approach to discovery science, as such we utilise a range of methods and collaborations to ensure use of cutting edge, novel methods. Below are our methods and links to the collaborators which make it possible.

Mass Spectrometry

Our MS work is facilitated by the Thalassinos Group at UCL.

Purification

Protein purification using AKTAs, Kingfisher instruments and OT-2 liquid handlers.

Western Blotting

We utilise the Bolt system and Biorad transfer processes, with visualisation on an Amersham ImageQuant

Molecular Simulation

We also specialise in simulation of protein structure and movement in artifical environments

Platform Proteomics

The McDonnell Lab also utilises a platform proteomic approach to diagnostics discovery at UCL.

Flow Cytometry

We also collaborate with cellular scientists and support Flow Cytometry methodologies through the UCL Rayne FACS Facility

ELISA

Alongside our structural work we also develop in-house and commercial ELISAs for large scale biomarker validation

Protein Production and Characterisation

We produce protein both in bacterial and mammalian cells, characterising it using biophysical approaches.
